Excellent film |
| This film version of _Dorian Gray_ is played largely as a drawing-room comedy, with all the bon mots Wilde was famous for. (Whereas the 1965 version, which I saw recently, is played largely as a horror film.) It's quite lovely, too. I don't understand why the back of the box and the Amazon listing describe it as black and white. It is in full color, and splendid color too. And yes, I'm sure the version listed here is the one I saw. |
The Picture Of Dorian Gray |
| OOooops! Just a heads up Amazon--This is the BBC movie with Peter Firth--NOT Hurd Hatfield.Just thought yah oughtta know. |
A Little Disappointing |
| I have to confess to being a little disappointed with this film. For one thing, it was too short and didn't explain things the way the book did. I also found Dorian Gray to be extremely annoying in the movie and I didn't find the character annoying in the book. I'm not really sure if it was the actor I found annoying or just the way he played the part. I haven't seen the actor in anything else so I can't say for sure. I give the film 4 stars though because I did find it to be largely faithful to the book with the exception of the things mentioned above. And also because I haven't seen any other film version of this story, so this may be the best one made. |
